Motive: The activity that the members of your social group will be participating in on a particular occasion. It may be stated, when asked, 'what's the motive?', the location where the motive will be taken place.[1]
As described above, the colloquial term motive is sometimes used to informally describe a gathering or large party. Around this time of year, there are common spots where such motives can be said to frequently occur. For British holidaymakers, this is often sunny tourist spots on the continent which welcome thousands of tourists each year.
One location, Magaluf, serves as a microcosm of how ‘motives’ can transpire into missed opportunities to explore and embrace the natural beauty around us. The town is situated on the Western coast of the island of Majorca. This alone is a remarkable point to consider, being as Majorca is part of the larger Balearic archipelago. Historically, these islands have existed socially under Carthaginian rule, Roman Rule, Moorish rule, and eventually subsumed into the Kingdom of Spain.

Geographically, tectonic movements have caused the islands to be highly mountainous, as an extension of mainland Spain; itself being the second-most mountainous country in Europe. The climate is warm and the land fertile, and all the while a coastal breeze sifts through the sweltering heat.
Clearly, far from being just a party town, Magaluf has plenty to offer. I completely accept and understand that people have fun gathering and enjoying significant moments together. Nevertheless, I do believe that if we all stepped back and considered the broader picture of what life has to offer, we would recognise that motives do not always immerse us nor enable us to draw life from our surroundings in a way most enriching to humanity.
Mallorca has plenty of nightclubs.
It also boasts a World Heritage site named ‘Serra de Tramuntana’; a backbone of soaring mountains cloaked by coastline along the panorama. If we are being honest, which sounds more fulfilling?
